Nancy Patricia Grattan
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Patricia Grattan at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 22, 2020. Born in Quebec City, June 19, 1947 she was the daughter of Joseph Philips and Eileen Malloy.
Nancy will be remembered as a sweet kind soul with a welcoming smile who was able to easily connect with absolutely everyone she met. This ability to develop meaningful connections was a special gift and one which will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Nancy was a prominent fixture in the Canadian curling community and took great pride in the accomplishments of Ken, James and Dean. She has been lovingly described as a true matriarch to the curling community and had become a mother figure to many competitors in New Brunswick.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth. In addition to her husband, Nancy leaves to mourn her sons; James (Lynn) and Dean as well as three grandchildren; Drew, Emma and Mia.
Nancy is predeceased by her brothers Bruce, Barry and sister Judy. She is survived by her brother Brian Phillips (Margot) of Georgia, USA and Jo Ann Phillips Laberge (Guy) of Quebec, QC as well as close family members Doris Ann Arseneau (Henry), Margaret Richard (Jack), Mary Richard (Mel), Eunice Grattan and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Hughson and staff at the Oromocto Public Hospital Emergency Department and the staff of the NB Cardiac Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital whose efforts to save Nancy’s life were professional and handled with extreme care and compassion.
As per Nancy’s wishes there will be no visitation or service, but a celebration of life will be held at the Gage Golf and Curling Club at a later date. Due to Covid-19 restrictions these details will be communicated in the near future.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
