Arnold Harry DeLong
With great sadness, the family of Arnold Harry DeLong wish to announce his passing on Sunday, July 14, 2013, age 75, at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born on December 8, 1937 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Harry Woods DeLong and Mary Florence (Meade) DeLong.
Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lorrine (Campbell); three children, Arnold (JR) DeLong (Francine Beliveau), Deanna Vergauwen (Patrick) and Derrick DeLong (Melissa); five grandchildren, Kristopher DeLong, Felisha Arsenault (Jonathan), Scott Schriver, Steven Schriver (Corrina Walsh) and Adam DeLong; one great grandson, Jake Arsenault; two step-grandchildren, Nathalie Vergauwen and Simon Vergauwen; three step brothers, Donald Randall (Rosalie), Robert Randall (Anne) and Paul Randall (Kathy); two sister-in-laws, Elaine Campbell and Karen Malcolm (Stuart) and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Arnold was predeceased by his step-father, Everett Randall; brother, Glendon DeLong; sister, Joyce Marie Reynolds (DeLong); step-brothers, Garnett Randall and Floyd Randall; step-sister, Grace Peterson (Randall); brother in-law, Trevor Reynolds and several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
After finishing high school, Arnold joined the air force and was stationed in Alberta in the mid 1950's. Upon leaving the air force he returned to New Brunswick, married the love of his life, raised a family and worked for 45 years for various businesses as an office machine technician, before retiring.
Arnold was a very spiritual person and served in many capacities with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fredericton. When not busy with church activities, Arnold devoted many hours to genealogy research and as an avid amateur radio operator, call sign VE9VK, he spoke to many people around the world, including astronauts in space.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago St., Oromocto, on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 986 Smythe St., Fredericton, on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm, followed by an interment at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Burton, NB. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
