Obituary of Charles John Richer

It is with shattered hearts that his family announces the passing of an incredible man, the kind this world could use a lot more of. On Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10:15am, Charles “Charlie” John Richer left this world after fighting an extremely vicious infection which took his precious life in just 8 days – an incomprehensible event that has left all who loved him in complete shock and heartbreak.

Charlie, known to his family as “Char”, “Daddy”, “Pops”, “Ompy”, and “Gramps”, was born on January 13, 1965 in Sudbury, Ontario. He was the son of the late Rena (Landry) Richer and Rudy Richer, and the youngest brother to his sisters Monique Lebreton and Nicole Blas, and his brother Danny Richer.

He is survived by his loving wife Darlene “Dar” Richer; son Jake Hayden (Aleta); daughter Sheena Caissie (Alexis Levesque), and his 4 grandchildren, Hudson and Hayden Levesque, Chase Hayden, and Jordan Grant.

Charlie was a brilliant, hard-working man who went above and beyond to excel in every venture that he set out to do. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 20 years old and served 21 years with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. While serving, he earned his first Master’s degree in business from UNB. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Valcom Consulting Group as a Senior Business Development and Procurement Manager, where he built an empire and relationships that lasted a lifetime. Always looking for a challenge, Charlie completed his second Master’s degree at UNB in 2022, this time in the field of education. Most recently, he worked as the Director of Learning for Kognitive Spark.

There aren’t enough words or pages to list all the admirable qualities that Charlie possessed. The most important however was the love, devotion, and loyalty that he had for his family; a love so strong it was immeasurable and he wore it so proudly. He was a lover of life and people, making friends everywhere he went and truly loved and admired by all. To say he will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched is a complete understatement.

At the family’s request there will be no viewing. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 11:00am. A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held at the Oromocto Legion following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Charlie’s favourite charity and one to which he donated his time yearly.
