Obituary of George Abraham Davenport

It is with heavy hearts that his family announces the passing of George Abraham “Dave” Davenport on March 15th, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. 

George, known to his family as “Abe”, “Dave”, and “Papa”, was born on January 22nd, 1943 in Andover, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late George and Velma (Condon) Davenport.  

He is survived by his wife Myrna Davenport; daughter Lynn Savoie (Jean-Pierre); stepdaughters Jeanette Miller (Dale), Laura Merrithew (Bernard), and Karen Peterson; grandchildren René Savoie (Julie), Kelsey Savoie, Kiko and Angela Daniels; step-grandchildren Lauren Miller, Nicole Merrithew, Alexandra and Ryan Peterson; great-grandchildren Jayce Savoie and Rowan Savoie; step-great-grandchild Benson Wilson; brothers Patrick and Larry Davenport; and sister Geraldine Hargrove.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife Shirley Loretta (Duff) Davenport; daughters Belinda Daniels and infant Brenda-Lee Davenport; brothers Benjamin, Hayden, Truman, Graydon, and infant John Davenport; and sisters Inez Rideout, Bridget Berry, and Vivian Ogden.

George joined the military in January 1961 with the Black Watch followed by Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). He has postings to Germany and Gagetown with two tours to Cyprus. In 1974, he changed his trade to vehicle technician and was posted to Toronto, Gagetown, and Petawawa.  He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 following 24 years of military service in which he was extremely proud.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 11:00am, with Rev. Callistus Abazie as celebrant, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be held at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.   For those who wish, donations in George’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
